Les Acadiens

10 days in which i disappeared, quite far away > cross the ocean and 5 000 miles to go to a place where France is considered Queen, where the french’s are an ideal elite, where old people speak french and younger ones are impressed by your frenchiness (i was know as “the frenchie”).  The only place where that could happen, could only be an old colony who forgot everything about our european race. Louisiana. In Louisiana, I’m going to show you two aspects : New Orleans, a town in real movement today, and Lafayette. Different parishes, different ways of life : It is like comparing Paris to Meudon. Or troyes.
One thing about the southern state : it’s hot, so hot your fingers slip off the camera and you just get really lazy. I have no photos of lands and open spaces as much as I would have liked to.

Part 1 > from NOLA to the lower 9th Ward.

I am back to Paris. I am back from my travels, and this is a good time to start posting and telling stories.

The first volume is my trip to Louisiana - from the lower 9th ward to the french quarter in New Orleans, passing by lafayette, heart of the Cajun country. Stay tuned for that.

The second volume is a little getaway to Australia. From Port Macquarie to Melbourne, going through Sidney. Don’t forget to check back here!

Today travel blog re-explores the Umayyad Mosque in Damascus, Syria, which not only helds the sanctuary of Hussain Son of Mohammed; but also (one of the manier theories) where St John the Baptist’s head is kept.

This cubicle the Shi’ya are touching and crying over, is said to be where Hussayn used to pray while being emprisoned. There is a tradition of weeping, rubbing, kissing this ornented metallic relic keeping box that’s absolutely astonishing!

le periph’

PERIPH

As a polynucleus city, Paris not only benefits from an overdensified center, but also from a clear limit that cuts it from its direct neighbouring towns : the peripherique. As many Parisians will tell you, as soon as you step outside of the ring, you’re in the suburbs, mostly psychologically.

Every big city has a ring shaped highway, usually crossing a wider ring (cf London’s M25, Bruxelles). Paris is unique in its kind! Drawn on Napoleon’s 3rd fortifications, the periph’ is now in the middle of an urban unity. There is the project of a bigger ring, not yet finished, but this 35km long motorway is still the easiest way to enter the city when coming thru the different highways.

In fact, as we look at an aerial photo of the city, it is obvious how even beyond the property of Paris, we’re in a very similar place. Maybe it’s time to annex the neighbooring towns to create a “Grand Paris”? The idea has been launched. Keep an eye on updates !

EU friendly

In the honor of France having the presidency of the EU council, the Eiffel tower is being blue. Wearing a crown with the 12 symbolics stars, it gives the imposing tower a sense of calm. After shooting a few classical shots and being extremely unhappy with them, i stopped and reflected for a minute. Just like J.Nouvel adds movement in his architecture (almost always, just like his teacher Claude Parent), it’s intresting to add that variable to a picture.

ponte rialto

A cloud invaded the city last night : thick fog playing hide and seek. It’s joy for a photographer, less for the autofocus, getting lost in the blurs. The sigma 18-50 didn’t make it, so I had to take out the legendary 50 lens, opened 1.8
